City of Decatur

Considered a bellwether community in the creation of a livable, walkable city, Decatur is currently addressing important gateway areas at Clairmont Road and Church Street as they approach the city’s thriving core. These gateways lack important pedestrian linkages to the surrounding neighborhoods and exhibit little to none of the quality urban environment found a block to the south. The City of Decatur asked HGOR to assist the city in creating a long term vision that would create value and positive change in the area and guide a series of shorter term streetscape and intersection improvements. The long term plan envisions opening of closed streets and the expansion of Decatur’s livability. A new urban park would provide needed gathering space, present itself as a strong gateway element and enhance real estate values and developments around the park’s perimeter.
