Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Support & Administrative Buildings

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Administrative & Support Buildings

A long-time partner, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, selected HGOR to develop the outdoor spaces surrounding their administrative headquarters consisting of two ten-story buildings. As a leader in the healthcare industry, Children’s sought to incorporate a therapeutic design with flexible programming for their on-site staff.

HGOR’s restorative design approach started with removing invasive species within the preserved stream buffer and replacing them with native trees and shrubs. The program delivered an updated and positive working and training environment for administrative staff, allowing the space where their previous office buildings existed to become the home of their new hospital campus. The new design offers flexibility and choice for dining, events, meetings, and activities. A centralized pavilion welcomes staff daily with comforting views of the lush courtyard space and provides an abundance of natural healing qualities. The central courtyard features covered outdoor conference rooms so that staff can enjoy meetings in nature. The exterior gardens feature a retractable shade structure over the dining and lounge areas; an open lawn equipped with a stage for events and an active greenspace for yoga, putting, bocce and lounging. Additionally, the newly designed campus offers a dog walk zone for visitors.

For the development of the campus’ new hospital to remain on schedule, it was critical to complete the project for Children’s Support and Administrative Buildings successfully and on time. HGOR exceeded the client’s expectations by delivering an on-time, on-budget outdoor garden area for employees to relax and unwind in. The resulting space allowed the owner to rethink what is possible for a workplace environment.
