Cox Enterprises Headquarters
Cox Enterprises Headquarters
Cox Enterprises retained HGOR to create and implement a master plan for their corporate headquarters in the Sandy Springs area. Along with the opportunities that arise with the planning of a new development, the Owner sought a flexible framework that when finished showcased a seamless landscape identifiable with the company’s dynamism.
The Master Plan was completed in 2000 and incorporated three adaptable phases to execute as abutting land parcels were obtained. Situated within the campus complex are executive and corporate offices, a state-of-the-art training facility, a full-service employee cafeteria, fitness centers, conference facilities, two-story rotunda, private garden, and museum highlighting Cox’s history and culture. Core to the original master plan is the 3-acre employee garden, which coincided with Phase I’s completion in 1999. High design value was placed in blending a traditional office environment with 21st century technology and amenities that reflect the rich history and progressive nature of Cox Enterprises and the surrounding community.
DESIGN APPROACH
HGOR’s approach maximized functionality of the outdoor communal spaces to connect guests and employees with nature - a proven asset in enabling productivity. A circuit of sidewalks and paths wind through the garden and between buildings - encouraging exercise opportunities and a healthier work-life balance. Additional amenities, such as enhanced dining facilities and meeting spaces, attract and accommodate for both small and large-scale events. The design explored traditional garden themes meshed with dynamic modern forms. The two-level tenant amenity creates a pedestrian-friendly workplace environment by acting as a nexus for the cluster of four office towers (T1, T2 and two C-Tech towers), three parking structures and employee support space. To maintain this atmosphere, parking is located in podium levels below the garden space.
HGOR further activated the blueprint with expansion projects focused on accessible pedestrian and vehicular connections, additional gardens and exterior dining spaces coinciding with the interior cafeteria. These exterior spaces evoke and relate to the dynamic forms and themes prominent throughout the main campus next door. T2 (Phase III), completed in 2014, and C-Tech / Manheim (Phase II), completed in 2012, both received LEED Gold certification.
