What's More Exciting Than America's Favorite Pastime?
Since the early twentieth century, baseball has been considered America's favorite national pastime. It is the sport that defines American culture and the reason many rivalries and friendships have been established. In the metro-Atlanta region, it is the reason for numerous wins with the development of The Battery Atlanta at Truist Park.
The 'stay-and-play' destination is not only a state-of-the-art baseball stadium; the venue has provided additional social interaction opportunities and approximately 5,500 jobs for the city of Atlanta, along with the first-ever Native American All-Star Baseball Showcase back in July. This ground-breaking event highlighted the top 50 Native American high school baseball players nationwide, allowing them to participate in a pro-style workout and a showcase game.
The mixed-use mega-entertainment destination has also delivered a significant financial windfall for Atlanta, particularly in Cobb County, as recently reported by The Braves. Since opening in the spring of 2017, The Battery Atlanta at Truist Park has generated revenue of $260 million in Q2, according to Liberty Media's earning reports representing an increase of $44 million from the same period in 2021.
As the landscape architect for this venue, HGOR's goal was to create designs for public areas that would stand the test of time. In preparation for what the development could mean for the city, the team's mission was to cater to visitors' needs immediately, but it also factored in extensions for venue growth and long-term value. This forward-thinking involved cutting-edge design components that could illustrate a wow factor for years to come, along with the development of open spaces designed to accommodate larger crowds while accounting for increased pedestrian flow.
