Duke Integrative Medicine
Nestled in the woodlands of Duke Forest, Duke Integrative Medicine is located near the internationally renowned medical facilities of Duke University Hospital. Duke Integrative Medicine provides comfortable and inviting therapeutic and meditation spaces boasts strong connections to a spirit of health and healing. HGOR’s campus design is in line with a commitment to conservation and sustainability. They were the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified medical building in North Carolina.
HGOR provided landscape architecture design services for Duke University’s new wellness center. To promote healing for a diverse patient clientele, the design incorporated a healing garden of spiritual and cultural landscape environments, comprising a zen garden, walking labyrinth and woodland meditation area. HGOR also implemented bio infiltration cells to replace traditional methods of piping and detaining storm water. The water is captured and filters through to the ground water. Constructed storm water wetlands act as a low-energy system to filter both heavy and fine contaminants through its vegetation.
